Database Description

Science

Science is the peer-reviewed academic journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and one of the world's top academic journals. The major focus of the journal is publishing important original scientific research and research reviews, but Science also publishes science-related news, opinions on science policy and other matters of interest to scientists and others who are concerned with the wide implications of science and technology. Unlike most scientific journals, which focus on a specific field, Science covers the full range of scientific disciplines.

Nature Complete

With the Nature Complete collection, you get access to nearly 90 natural science journals. Your subscription also includes access to the prestigious journal Nature, which has been published since 1869 and is one of the world's most cited scientific journals.
ScienceDirect The leading scientific full-text database provides access to journals and books published by Elsevier. Browse the full text of more than 4,500 journals and 30,000 books, primarily in STEM fields.
SAGE Research Methods (Core)

The SAGE Research Methods (Core) database contains more than 1,000 books or videos on research methods in various disciplines. To access from home, click on "Sign in via your Institution" on the home page, select from the list of SAGE institutions and enter your library login details. Access from the library (pc or wifi) is without logging in. You can get the resources that the library has subscribed to (Core module) by checking the "Content available to me" option.

EBSCO

It is produced by EBSCO Publishing and contains special full-text databases called Academic Search Ultimate, Central & Eastern European Academic Source, MEDLINE Complete.

ProQuest

This multidisciplinary full-text database provides access to all of ProQuest's own production of more than 160 fields including trade and economy, science and technology, medicine and health, literature and linguistics, society and culture, art and history. It contains collections of ProQuest Central and ProQuest STM Package.

What everyone needs to know

The popular series What Everyone Needs to Know from Oxford University Press contains 119 e-books in the form of questions and answers on current topics in international politics, religion, the environment, economics, etc. To access from home, click on "Sign in via your Institution" on the home page, select from the list of MSVK institutions, and enter your library login credentials. Access from the library (library computer or Wi-Fi) does not require a login.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Academic

Encyclopaedia Britannica is the most comprehensive general encyclopaedia published since 1768. It provides up-to-date, trustworthy and high-quality information in all areas of human knowledge. Experts from around the world - more than 100 Nobel laureates, professors and eminent figures in many disciplines - contribute to the content. Britannica contains more than 100,000 articles and an extensive collection of multimedia, including images, videos, audio recordings, interactives, and infographics.

Access to the encyclopedia from library computers requires no authentication. To access from home, enter your library card number. To access the database temporarily, registration must be confirmed by a physical visit to the library.

Artstor Digital Library

Artstor is a repository of visual material that makes available approximately 3 million images, videos, documents and sound files from leading museums, archives, scholars and artists from around the world. All images can be used for educational and study purposes. Each month the content grows by at least 100,000 new images.

The database is accessible from our library. For remote access from anywhere, it is possible to register in the database, but registration in Artstor must take place in the library (on library PCs or wifi) and is valid for 120 days.

 

Press, Technical Standards and Legal Information

Database Description
PressReader

Contains over 7000 newspapers and magazines from all over the world. 

Anopress

Contains full texts of newspaper and magazine articles and verbatim transcriptions of radio and TV programmes which have been created since 1996. Daily updated. This database is cofinanced by the Ministry of Culture programme (VISK8 - "Information Sources").

ASPI

Automated legal information system produced by Byll software contains legal regulations published in Collections of Law, findings of the constitutional court, etc. Regulations are stated in their up-to-date versions, particular former stages are also available. Furthermore, ASPI covers also literature (such as annotations of legal and economic articles, interpretations to regulations, commentaries), case-laws and unpublished findings. This database is cofinanced by the Ministry of Culture programme (VISK8 - "Information Sources"). Available only in the study room.

Database of Czech Technical Standards

It contains full texts of all valid Czech technical standards, but also of the invalid standards which have been repealed since 1999. It is possible to search and read them in PDF format, downloading and printing is forbidden. The database is available only in the multimedia study room.

 

Databases Created in the Library

Digital Library of the Moravian-Silesian Region contains the digitized documents important for the cultural, social, economic, political and religious history of the Moravian-Silesian Region. They include mostly periodicals and books published in the 19th century and in the 1st half of the 20th century. The documents are preserved in various memory institutions (archives, museums and libraries) of the region. The digital library is being updated regularly.

Regional E-books - Set of regional electronic books includes copyright free works by local authors. It contains e-books in formats suitable for e-book readers and other readers - pdf, pdf for readers, ePub, mobi.

The Retrospective Regional Bibliography - allows searching for information about the Moravian-Silesian Region from the earliest times to the present. It contains records of books, series, articles and articles that relate to the region in question. They map the historical, political, economic, social or cultural life of the Moravian-Silesian Region.
